Perfect for complete beginners or anyone wanting to refresh their skills, this course covers essential handbuilding techniques in a relaxing, supportive environment.

Classes are small, with a maximum of 5 participants, allowing for individual guidance as you develop your own style and approach to working with clay. By the end of the four weeks, you'll leave with new skills, a collection of finished pieces, and likely some new pottery friends too.

Over the course, you'll learn the fundamentals of working with clay by hand. We'll start with pinch pots, learning to add handles and feet before combining forms to create more complex pieces. You'll discover how to work with slabs to build different structures and use slump molds to craft beautiful dishes and platters. We'll also explore coiling techniques for building larger, more ambitious forms.

Beyond shaping, you'll learn a range of surface decoration techniques including decorating slips, underglazes, stamps, texture rollers, and creative glazing with commercial glazes. Whether you're interested in making functional pottery or decorative sculptural work, you'll leave with the skills and confidence to keep creating.

After the course, you're welcome to join our Open Studio sessions to continue developing your practice as part of our friendly pottery community. The studio also comes with four overly friendly cats who provide emotional support (and the occasional distraction).
